Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms

Welcome to CharacterLinks. These Terms of Service ("Terms") constitute a legally binding agreement between you ("User," "you," or "your") and CharacterLinks ("we," "us," or "our") governing your use of the CharacterLinks mobile application (the "App" or "Service").

By downloading, installing, or using CharacterLinks, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of Service

CharacterLinks is a character relationship management and visualization tool designed for writers, readers, viewers, and students to track characters and relationships in stories.

3. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years of age to use CharacterLinks.

4. Free and Premium Features

4.1 Free Tier

• Up to 5 projects
• Up to 5 characters per project
• Up to 5 relationships per project

4.2 Premium Tier ($4.99 one-time)

• Unlimited projects
• Unlimited characters
• Unlimited relationships
• Data import & export
• All future features

5. User Content and Intellectual Property

5.1 Your Content

You retain all ownership rights to content you create in CharacterLinks, including:

• Character profiles and descriptions
• Relationship definitions and notes
• Project titles and metadata
• Images you upload
• Any other user-generated content

5.2 License to Use Your Content

You grant CharacterLinks a limited, non-exclusive license to store your content on your device and in your personal iCloud account for the purpose of providing the Service.

We do NOT:

• Claim ownership of your content
• Use your content for marketing purposes
• Share your content with third parties
• Access or view your content on servers (we operate no servers)

5.3 Content Restrictions

You agree NOT to create or upload content that:

• Violates any laws or regulations
• Infringes on intellectual property rights of others
• Contains malicious code or viruses
• Is intended to harass, threaten, or harm others

5.4 Our Intellectual Property

The CharacterLinks App, including its design, interface, source code, name, logo, and branding, are owned by Junqiang Jiang and protected by intellectual property laws.

6. Acceptable Use Policy

You agree to use CharacterLinks only for lawful purposes. You may NOT:

• Violate any applicable laws or regulations
• Attempt to hack, disable, or interfere with the App's functionality
• Use automated systems (bots, scripts) to access the App
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
• Upload malware, viruses, or malicious code

7. Data Storage and Backup

7.1 Your Responsibility

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR BACKING UP YOUR DATA. We recommend:

• Using the Export feature (Premium) for manual backups
• Regularly exporting your data to external storage

7.2 We Are Not Liable for Data Loss

We are not liable for data loss resulting from:

• Device failure or loss
• Accidental deletion
• iOS updates or reinstallation
• iCloud storage issues
• User error

8. Refunds

All purchases are processed through the Apple App Store and are subject to Apple's refund policies. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com.

9. Disclaimer of Warranties

CHARACTERLINKS IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED.

We do not guarantee that:

• The App will meet your specific requirements
• The App will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free
• Any errors or defects will be corrected
• Your data will never be lost (you are responsible for backups)

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, CHARACTERLINKS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, revenue, data, or use
• Business interruption
• Data loss or corruption

Our total liability to you shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Premium upgrade, or $5 USD if you are a free user, whichever is greater.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless CharacterLinks from any claims, lawsuits, losses, damages, liabilities, and expenses arising from:

• Your use or misuse of the App
• Your violation of these Terms
• Your violation of any laws or third-party rights
• Content you create or upload

12. Changes to the App and Terms

We reserve the right to:

• Modify, update, or discontinue features
• Change pricing for new users (existing Premium purchases honored)
• Add new features or functionality
• Update these Terms

We will notify you of material changes through app updates or in-app notifications.

13. Termination

You may terminate your use of CharacterLinks at any time by uninstalling the App. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms.

14. Dispute Resolution

14.1 Informal Resolution

Before filing a claim, please contact us at characterlinks@qq.com to attempt to resolve the dispute informally.

14.2 Arbitration Agreement

If informal resolution fails, disputes will be resolved through binding arbitration rather than in court.

14.3 Class Action Waiver

YOU AGREE THAT DISPUTES WILL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY, NOT AS A CLASS ACTION. You waive the right to participate in class actions.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of your jurisdiction, without regard to conflict of law principles.

These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CharacterLinks regarding the App.

18. Acknowledgment

BY USING CHARACTERLINKS, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE THAT:

• You have read and understood these Terms
• You agree to be bound by these Terms
• You have the authority to enter into this agreement
• You understand the limitations and disclaimers herein
